New Year’s Resolutions - My Why Story

New Year’s Resolutions - My Why Story

Do you make New Year Resolutions?

We’ve all heard the statistics on the percentage of people who make New Year Resolutions and fall off after a few days.

Usually, New Year’s Resolutions include some sort of diet change.  Whether that’s to eat more fruits and vegetables, follow a specific diet, or simply to eat less desserts.

When I was in high school, I was hospitalized with a hemiplegic migraine.  It is a rare type of migraine with symptoms that mimic those of a stroke; the right side of my body was temporarily paralyzed and I struggled with my speech.

After a care flight, an MRI, and an EEG test, the migraine was confirmed.  The doctor recommended I stay away from artificial sweeteners and certain chemicals found in food and cleaning products, as those ingredients can trigger migraines.  Over the next few years, I continued experiencing aura migraines (symptoms include temporary visual disturbances and pain) every few months while I worked to include more organic and high-quality foods into my diet.

About 7 years ago, I made the commitment to go nearly 100% organic and minimize processed and prepared foods.  Although it wasn’t a New Year’s Resolution, it was a resolution that stuck because I was committed to the change.  Since then, my migraines have all but stopped affecting me; I’ve only experienced 3 since making the commitment to high-quality foods.

At Lift Bridge Bagels, all of the products are always made with high-quality and organic ingredients.  Instead of all-purpose flour with added ingredients such as “enzymes” and “thiamine mononitrate” (an ingredient that is thought to trigger migraines), I am committed to using 100% organic wheat flour.

Whatever your New Year’s resolution may be, I hope you choose to prioritize high-quality foods into your 2022!
